Lily MERCROCHET Cotton, Art. 161:—

4 balls White and

7 balls Med. Blue size 30; and

Lily Six Strand Floss:—

16 skeins Dp. Yellow (sufficient for 4 Place Mats, 4 Bread and Butter Plate Doilies and 4 Glass Doilies).

Steel crochet hook No. 13.

PLACE MAT— (Size:—In DAISY—16 inches; in MERCROCHET—14 inches) —

Starting in center with White, ch 9, join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd—Ch 1, 14 sc in ring, join with sc in 1st sc. 2d rnd—Ch 5, dc in next sc, (ch 4, tr in next sc) twice, (ch 4, dtr in next sc) twice, (ch 4, tr tr in next sc) 6 times, (ch 4, a long tr in next sc) twice. To make a long tr, thread over 5 times, insert hook in next sc, thread over and draw thru sc, (thread over and draw thru 2 lps on hook) 6 times. Drop this thread, but do not cut. 2d Thread—Join a 2d ball of thread to next sc, 3 sc and 3 hdc in next ch-5 sp, dc in next dc, (5 dc in next sp, dc in next st) 11 times. Drop this thread. 1st Thread—Pick up 1st Thread, ch 4, a long tr in 1st sc on next ch-5 sp, (ch 4, a long tr in next st) twice, (ch 4, sk 1 dc, a long tr in next dc) 17 times. (Mark last long tr with a small safety pin to help in counting). (Ch 4, sk 2 dc, a long tr in next dc, ch 4, sk 1 dc, a long tr in next dc) 6 times. (Mark final long tr with pin). Drop this thread. 2d Thread—* (4 dc in next sp, dc in next long tr) repeated around to 2d long tr from end of last row. Drop this thread. * 1st Thread—(Ch 4, sk 2 dc, a long tr in next dc) 27 times. (Mark final long tr). (Ch 4, sk 3 dc, a long tr in next dc, ch 4, sk 2 dc, a long tr in next dc) 12 times. (Mark final long tr). Drop this thread. 2d Thread—Repeat from * to *. 1st Thread—**** (Ch 4, sk 3 dc, a long tr in next dc, ch 4, sk 2 dc, a long tr in next dc) 35 times. (Mark final long tr).
